I remember the classic Subaru commercials with Australian Actor
Paul Hogan in the Outback promoting the Subaru Wagon of the same
name and thinking what a fun wagon. At the time wagons weren't
viewed as fun and Subaru with the help of Paul carved a niche that
would evolve over the years with industry leading technology in;
engine performance, powertrain, all wheel drive systems, turbo
engines, and continuous valve transmissions. Subaru displayed its
technology prowess in multiple Rally wins over the years,
subsequently inspiring designs and award winning vehicles that are
fun sporty, fuel efficient, and now class leading in comfort. The
2010 Subaru Outback is a wagon no more and has come armed with a
goal to conquer the lucrative Crossover marketplace. During my
extended drive with the Outback I could only concur, mission
accomplished. Already a winner of the coveted Motor Trend Truck of
the Year award, the Outback truly impressed with the quality of the
fit and finish, the feel and comfort of the leather seating
surface, the ergonomics of the cockpit and the convenience of the
steering mounted buttons. Interior appointments aside the Outback
2.5 I drove had impressive pickup on my dive thru the mountains of
Western Maryland and Virginia on Interstate 70 and 81. The 4
cylinder engine produces 170 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5
cylinder engine that is matted to a Continuous Valve Transmission
yet you have a 6 manual option with steering mounted paddle
shifters. This is not your mothers wagon, yet Mom would have a
blast behind the wheel and find the symmetrical all wheel drive
system useful in this winter season. The Outback is also very fuel
efficient and qualifies as a partial low emission vehicle with an
EPA rating of 22mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. I really
enjoyed my time with the Outback in fact I may have over enjoyed my
time as I found the Outback, fun, functional, and funky with the
available 440watt Harman/Kardon 9 speaker system. With a base price
of 22,995, the Outback in a must drive for anyone in the market for
a Crossover SUV. For more information on the Outback visit
